About
The free miniature paint color matching tool
What is Paint Picker?
Paint Picker is a free tool built for the miniature painting community. Whether you're painting Warhammer, D&D miniatures, or any other tabletop models, finding the right paint colour (or an equivalent from a different brand) can be a real challenge.
Paint Picker solves this by letting you search and compare colors across multiple paint brands. You can match by hex code, paint name, or even pick a color directly from an image.
Supported Brands
We currently support paint ranges from the following brands:
- •Citadel - Games Workshop's range including Base, Layer, Shade, Contrast, and more
- •Vallejo - Model Color, Game Color, and Model Air ranges
- •Army Painter - Warpaints and accessories
- •Colourforge - Spray primers and paints
We're always looking to add more brands and ranges. If you'd like to see a specific brand added, let us know via our Contact page.
How It Works
Hex Code Search
Enter a hex color code or use the color picker to find paints that match. Adjust the match tolerance to widen or narrow your results.
Paint Name Search
Search for a specific paint by name and find equivalent colors across other brands.
Image Color Picker
Upload an image or paste an image URL, then click anywhere on the image to pick a color. All image processing happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to our servers.
Browse by Brand
Explore complete paint catalogs from each brand and see cross-brand equivalents side by side.
Color Accuracy
Colors on screen are represented as hex values. Real-world paint can look different depending on your monitor, lighting conditions, how many coats you apply, and what you're painting over. Paint Picker gives you the closest digital match, but we always recommend testing paints in person when precision matters.
Our matching algorithm uses Euclidean distance in RGB color space to calculate how close two colors are. Results are ranked from closest match to furthest.
Built by Hobbyists
Paint Picker was built by miniature painting enthusiasts who got tired of squinting at paint pots and Googling "Citadel equivalent of Vallejo..." for the hundredth time.
If Paint Picker has saved you time or helped you find the right paint, consider supporting us so we can keep improving the tool.
